Thoughts of Day … Sally

MEDITATION

Just the other day I realised that I haven’t been meditating as much as I used to.   Every day, without fail, I used to meditate for about 40 minutes a day – it had become my usual morning ritual.  Meditation is part of my work – I will always do a few minutes meditation before I begin my consultations.  However, I had let it slip and without being fully conscious, I had stopped valuing it as a time to create my own personal space and I now realise that I was taking the wonderful benefits of meditation for granted.  I could easily blame a busy lifestyle but if you really want to do something you can easily make room for it in your life.

So as I get back into my daily meditation, it would be great if you could join me so we can all discuss what wonderful benefits it has had for us in a month or so.  And for those of you who either need to be convinced it’s worthwhile before putting any effort into it or if you like scientific proof of something before you’ll give it a go yourselves, then please take a few minutes to look it up on the internet.  Recent research by Dr Herbert Benson (from Harvard) has proven that deep relaxation such as yoga and meditation can switch of ‘disease causing’ genes and switch on genes that protect us from disorders such as high blood pressure, pain, infertility & even Rheumatoid Arthritis.  There are plenty of medical studies out there for you to discover, here are a few more:

Dr Davidson from the University of Wisconsin ran a research group looking into how meditation boosts the body’s immune system and greatly reduces the medical symptoms of stress (of which there can be many unpleasant symptoms).

Dr Frank A. Treiber from the Medical College of Georgia conducted a study with children.  He gave them two short meditations a day and found it reduced their blood pressure which could possibly prevent them from experiencing cardiovascular health problems in the future.

Dr Robert H. Schneider led a research group on meditation amongst adults finding that it lowered their blood pressure.

And if you think that you have to be practicing meditation for years or that it’s difficult to learn to meditate or that you have to sit there crossed legged chanting away for hours on end … think again!  Daydreaming is a form of meditation – now I bet you do that well don’t you?!  On today’s show I can teach you various meditation techniques and prescribe the right ones for you to help you achieve peace, focus, clarity, energy and emotional balance – in fact whatever you are looking to achieve.  Meditation could be the golden key to your success.

On a final note, I’m not going to ask you to meditate for 40 minutes a day (unless you would like to!).  A Professor Yi-Yuan Tang led a research project where they noticed that even after 5 sessions of 20 minute meditations, the people on the study found they had less stress and higher concentration levels.  On a later study he found that meditation led to better quality breathing and had an effect on our emotions, helping to reduce anger, depression and tiredness.

I have known this for years – I maybe just needed to be reminded of it.  How about you?

    Hi Sally,
I have never been able to meditate. Although, I have managed to feel really relaxed during reiki healing. Have been told would be really good for me. Am annoyed with myself missing the start of the programme. Great show.
    Love and light

    Hello again Sally,
You answered my text this morning, giving me a meditation to work with, to help claire audience to become clearer.
Thank you so much, it is definately one I will be able to work with. You gave me nature, clear space and mountains, all of which I love and miss. You even mentioned me possibly hearing an eagle’s cry in my meditation ~ my user name on the show is eaglewings ~ I had to use my son’s phone this morning to send the text into the show, so came up as anon.
I followed the live meditation you did with Marie, and WOW, it helped me release a lot of stuff I didn’t thnk was there. My little fairy elf was staggering away in fact :O)
Gosh I feel so much lighter and brighter this morning, thank you so much.
    Love and Light, take care,
    Greta
