Pagans pronounce it ‘Sow-ayne,’ but we know it better as All Hallows Eve, or Halloween – and it’s tomorrow!
There are more spooky traditions connected to this time of year than any other. Far away and long ago Halloween was considered the prime time for magic, especially love spells!
One famous love spell was to peel an apple’s skin in one long piece at midnight on Halloween, and throw the peel over the left shoulder. The peel would twist into the initial of one’s future lover! And if one had too many to choose from? Well, you would peel another apple and place a wet seed, named for each romantic option, on your cheeks, and the one to fall off last would be the next big deal in your love life!
One easy spell I recall was the old ‘When I my true love wish to see, I cross my shoes in the shape of a T!’ The idea was that you did this before going to bed, and sure enough you were meant to dream of your future lover.
Another tradition was for a lady to go to her mirror on Halloween light with a single candle lit. On the stroke of midnight the lady should start combing her hair or eating an apple… it was said that if her focus was strong enough, a reflection of her future husband would be seen in the mirror, but if she turned to face him, he would fade away, as would her chance of ever finding him.
Then there’s a fishier method…try a heavilly salted sardine before you go to sleep – an apparition of your future spouse was meant to turn up to quench your thirst!
So much hard work to see the future when all you need is a decent psychic! It’s that time when the veil between the worlds is very thin indeed, and if there is ever a specially favoured moment for a reading, this is it. Spells may be fun, but how many apples can anyone eat in an evening? And sardines? Tell you something, getting a reading from one of us on the show is probably easier, though it lacks the spook factor!
Here’s to Halloween! Woooooooh!

Hi Debbie,
Wahhoooo, this is my first blog comment for months!! Things have been so rubbish that I haven’t been able to bring myself to writing, or even sorting my laptop out so I can watch the show and get involved. Silly of me really though, when I know how much it helps to be in touch. You’re always so kind, sympathetic, reasuriing and give great guidance. I always feel so much safer after a reading, I can’t explain it but to me, that’s a massive thing as I constantly feel insecure and scared. So thank you!! And Debbie thank you for the reading this morning, it was lovely, inspiring, funny and as always there’s a level of understanding about all the difficult things that I really appreciate. And thank you Mr Producer for letting me stay on the phone for longer!!
lol!
The veil between the worlds has definitely been thinner for me. It’s been quite scary and keeps surprising me when it happens. But each time it has it’s been very relevent and comforting at times. The situation about my friend and being told ‘just to be’ and that ‘I didn’t have to talk, just being and understanding would be more than enough’.It was beautiful, I went from crying, and being in a turmoil, almost screaming because I didn’t know what to do and then I heard it and suddenly felt calmer, more in control. It wasn’t easy at all, but the voice – where ever it came from, was right – just being was enough, for my friend to know I understood the pain and how difficult things were was enough to get us through.
I’m all for opening up to new psychic things, it’s probably the one thing I’m not afraid to let into my life, so bring it on!!!
Hope to speak to you again soon,
Lots of love,
Lotte xx
Good night, Happy hallowen!!!
Hi Lotte, long time no speak!
I was so happy to read this, and always pleased to hear that we have helped out. It’s what we’re here for!
Your understanding and some deeper sweetness seems to have transformed past sorrows into something that teaches. I hope all is well with you and your friend.
Happy Halloween to you. Llawer o gariad xxx
