Definition of Energy
From physics point of view energy is an ability that a physical system has to produce changes on another physical system. Let’s break this down. To obtain it you need a physical system that has the capacity to perform work. There are many forms of energy such as: heat, kinetic, light, potential, electrical or mechanical energy .
From the perspective of the law of conservation energy the total energy of a system remains the same. It can be transformed into another form. A good example of this: two billiard balls colliding, either ball 1 can move ball 2 or they may come to rest, where energy becomes sound and heat at the point of collision.
Energy can easily be transformed from one kind to another. We transform mechanical energy into electrical everyday using generators. A very popular example of this is use of tides to move a turbine and thanks to generators we are able to obtain electricity.
We use mass, radiation, time, temperature, and distance, electric current and electric charge. The most widely used technique is called calorimetric – it uses intensity of radiation using bolometer or temperature using thermometer. There are many units that describe energy like calories, joule, SI, kilowatt hour (kWh), ergs and the British thermal unit (Btu) and others. KWh and Btu are both larger units of energy.
We use energy in our everyday life, even we as human beings live thanks to it. A living organism relies on external source of energy. Plants need sun in order to grow and an average human intake is around 1400-2200 calories daily. Thanks to this energy we can safely reproduce and expand.
Without energy we all would die. Energy is what keeps us alive and well. Thanks to it and being able to transform with an ease we can live a happy and technology advanced life.
